Report: Arsenal willing to pay £100m for ‘special’ 35-goal player but 2023 move more likely

Arsenal are one of the clubs willing to pay £100m for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, according to a report from The Independent.

Nkunku has been one of the standout players in Europe this last 12 months as he struck an impressive 35 goals for the German outfit. When you add his assists on as well, Nkunku directly contributed to more than 50 goals for the Bundesliga side last season.

Reports this weekend had suggested that Nknunku was set to sign a new contract with Leipzig, with the detail of a £50m release clause the headline grabber in that new deal. However, The Independent has claimed that Leipzig might be willing to sell Nkunku this summer, albeit for £100m.

What is interesting in the report from The Independent is that it says Arsenal – along with PSG – would be willing to go to that £100m figure. In an added nugget of info within that, it’s claimed Manchester United are not willing to meet that price due to their own budget restraints.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will indeed pursue Nkunku. While talk of spending £100m will excite Arsenal fans, it’s still likely to be a surprising signing should the Gunners pull it off.
