Report: Arsenal to make bid for £85m Manchester United target who’s ‘better than Vlahovic’

Arsenal are preparing to try and steal a march on Manchester United by making another offer for Victor Osimhen shortly.

Earlier this week, it was reported by Il Mattino that the Gunners had tried and failed to sign the Manchester United-linked hitman after Napoil rejected their £51 million bid for the player.

It was previously reported that Arsenal had withdrawn all interest in signing the Nigeria international.

But that looks like wide of the mark because according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the North Londoners are readying another offer.

The Italian outlet has revealed that Arsenal and the Red Devils are two clubs that have shown the most ‘concrete’ interest in the attacker and that the Emirates Stadium club are about to lodge another offer.

Gazzetta stop short on mentioning how much will be tabled for Osimhen, but it does reiterate that the 23-year-old will not be sold for less than £85 million, particularly after Benfica secured that figure for Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez this week.

Both Premier League outfits need a striker but perhaps Manchester United more so, in light of reports that Arsenal are set to sign Manchester City attacker Gabriel Jesus in a £50 million deal [The Times], which casts doubt on the prospect of them spending even more than that on Osimhen.

However, the Italy-based striker is clearly the real deal.

Eighteen goals in 32 appearances across all competitions last season [Transfermarkt] has even prompted one pundit in Italy – Alessandro Altobelli – to proclaim that Osimhen is even ‘better than Dusan Vlahovic‘.

That’s up for debate, but what cannot be argued is that Osimhen – who scored four on international duty this week – is a lethal attacker and one who would benefit either Arsenal or the Old Trafford outfit.
