According to a report from The Mirror, Arsenal are still exploring the possibility of signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid this summer.
Asensio is out of contract next summer and rumours have been rife for a while that he might move on from the Spanish giants to seek a new challenge. Previous reports have linked Arsenal with a move already, while Newcastle United are also thought to admire the Spanish star.
However, the Mirror claims that Arsenal are now firmly back on the trail of Asensio. Real Madrid are said to be wanting an answer from the player on his future by the end of next weekend. That could push Los Blancos into selling the midfielder this summer, rather letting him go next summer for nothing.
Asensio, who has been dubbed as a ‘world-class’ talent, is believed to have a huge release-clause in his contract of more than £400m. Naturally, Madrid know they’ll be selling for considerably less than that figure if they do part ways.
The 26-year-old has been part of Madrid’s hugely successful squad in the last few years. He’s won three Champions League titles, as well as three La Liga championships.
